Below is a letter sent this morning to the Assembly Commissioner for Standards.

Mr Douglas Bain
Northern Ireland Assembly Commissioner for Standards

12th August 2013

Dear Mr Bain,

I write to make a formal complaint against Gerry Kelly MLA following his attendance at a parade and a speech he delivered at the event on Sunday 11th August in Castlederg, Co Tyrone.

The Code of Conduct states that: “Members have a duty to uphold the law and to act on all occasions in accordance with the public trust placed in them” and “Members will act in a way that is conducive to promoting good relations by providing a positive example for the wider community to follow by acting justly and promoting a culture of respect for the law.” The Parades Commission determination in relation to the Castlederg parade clearly stated that no paramilitary-style clothing was to be worn at any time during the parade and that there were to be no depictions of weaponry. Both of these conditions were, as you can see from the enclosed photographs, breached. Continue Reading…

Statement by TUV leader Jim Allister:

Martin McGuinness’ description of Sunday’s coat-trailing glorification of the murder, planned for Castlederg, as “an act of remembrance” is obscene.

“Acts of remembrance” are sacred occasions when those who fought honourably and courageously for their county are remembered with dignity; Sinn Fein’s Castlederg event is a celebration of the wicked terror of the IRA and exaltation of the death and destruction they brought to their innocent victims. There is no equivalence between the courage and sacrifice of the soldier who goes to war for his country and the bloodthirsty terrorist who skulks around in the dark waiting to shoot a policeman or a civilian in the back, or who loads up a car with explosives to blow the heart out of a town. Statement by Jim Allister MLA:

“The Kingsmill massacre was one of the most horrific incidents in the Troubles. Few incidents illustrated the sectarian nature of the IRA’s murder campaign as graphically.

“Today’s announcement is long overdue and will be welcomed by the families who are to be commended for their campaign for truth.

“The victims’ families are entitled to know what happened at Kingsmill and I hope this announcement will be a step in that direction.”

Charging of Ruth Patterson

Admin —  August 3, 2013
Statement by TUV leader Jim Allister:

“Ruth Patterson made comments on Facebook which she quickly withdrew and issued a fulsome apology for.

“It is unfortunate that they have, with the help of certain media outlets, allowed the focus to be taken off the Sinn Fein/IRA terror fest in a town they repeatedly blew to bits.

“That said, the PSNI action in arresting and charging Councillor Patterson is completely uncalled for, particularly when contrasted with the kid glove approached adopted when dealing with Gerry Kelly – a convicted bomber who is still out on licence and very publicly obstructed a police land rover  – or convicted bank robber Alex Maskey – who defended stone throwing on television when tensions in Belfast were already running dangerously high. Statement by TUV leader Jim Allister:

“As time goes on it is becoming increasingly clear that the concerns of innocent victims about the Sinn Fein/DUP plans for the Maze site are well founded. An answer which I received today from the Education Minister will compound those fears.

“I asked the Education Minister how his Department and schools will relate to, and use, the proposed Conflict Resolution Centre and prison buildings at the Maze site. O’Dowd responded telling me that the “Conflict Resolution Centre and prison buildings at the Maze site are likely to provide important educational opportunities for our young people”. He then went on to say that the Department could “facilitate the dissemination of materials produced by the Centre to schools” and likened this to work the Department of Education has already done with resources produced by the Imperial War Museum dealing with the Holocaust! Statement by TUV Leader Jim Allister:

“Playing with words over what won’t or will be within the proposed new Conflict Centre does not address a key issue concerning the Maze.

“What is the plan for the existing prison buildings, the IRA citadel buildings of the hospital and the H block? Sinn fein has been very clear on this issue with Raymond McCartney MLA boasting, “The listed and retained buildings…will be open to the public. There will be the opportunity for the many stories of the gaol to be told” (see http://www.sinnfein.ie/contents/22471). The DUP remains silent on the issue, though Jeffrey Donaldson has insulted the intelligence of us all by saying Bobby Sands name won’t even be mentioned!

“Will the buildings be closed, or open? If open, for what purpose? We need to know the agreed DUP/Sinn Fein position. Continue Reading…

Statement by Jim Allister MLA and Cllr William Blair:

Commenting on the news of the closure of the First Trust Bank’s Ballymoney Branch, Jim Allister stated:

“The announced closure of the Ballymoney Branch of First Trust Bank is yet another in a long line of bank closures that are hitting North Antrim. In recent weeks Ulster Bank, Danske Bank and now First Trust have closed or intend to close branches across the constituency.

“This consolidation of branch networks hits hardest those who live in rural areas who will have to travel further to access branch facilities.

“While I welcome that staff are to be offered redeployment or an option for voluntary severance, there simply is no silver lining for customers.”

Cllr William Blair, TUV Ballymoney added: Continue Reading…

Following a meeting of the party officers on Tuesday night and consultation with grassroots party members TUV has decided to withdraw from the Unionist Forum.

In a statement the party said:

“TUV was sceptical about the potential of the Forum to achieve anything of substance and made this clear at the outset. We were never interested in something which was merely an expediency for the moment. As the months have progressed the various subgroups of the Forum have rarely if ever met and public cynicism about the Forum and its ability to deliver anything has grown. In fact, most people have probably forgotten about its existence. Continue Reading…

Extract from speech by TUV leader Jim Allister to the Lisburn protest against building the Conflict Resolution Centre at the Maze:-

“From no terrorists in government to IRA Commander as Joint First Minister; from no stadium at the Maze, because of the threat of a Shrine, to a ‘Conflict Transformation Centre’ capable only of being built beside the very Shrine buildings: that is the sad transformation of the DUP. Such is what happens when you end up in hock to IRA/Sinn Fein.

“The Conflict Transformation Centre is planned for the Maze because Sinn Fein would agree to it no where else. And in this government, what Sinn Fein wants Sinn Fein gets. But what of the people, what of the victims of the IRA, what about what they want? When were they consulted? The truth is never. Continue Reading…

Statement by TUV leader Jim Allister:

“I am outraged to discover by way of a written answer from OFMdFM that £260,000 has been wasted on maintain the ugly prison buildings at the Maze.

“It is scandalous that such a sum has been squandered on maintaining buildings which, as numerous DUP politicians have pointed out in the past, will inevitably become a shrine to Republican terrorism.

“The First Ministers claim that they are merely fulfilling their “statutory obligations” but there are many beautiful listing buildings in Northern Ireland which have nothing like that sum spent on them. One has only to look at the dilapidated state of Craigavon House – which is a building of immense historical importance to the history of Northern Ireland and its founding – to see that the Maze is evidently receiving gold standard treatment. Why? Because the Maze prison buildings and hospital wing are hallowed ground as far as Republicans are concerned. Continue Reading…
