Allister hits out at DARD failure

Admin —  September 20, 2013

TUV Leader and former MEP, Jim Allister, this week strongly criticised the DARD Minister in the Assembly over  the fact that Northern Ireland farmers will not be able to take advantage of the recently EU approved option of October advances on Single Farm Payments. Continue Reading…

Statement by TUV leader Jim Allister:

“While the media will doubtless give McGuinness a platform to spout meaningless platitudes in the Warrington Peace Centre today my thoughts will be with those protesting outside.

“The comments of those who suffered as a result of the IRA’s Birmingham Pub Bombings in which 21 innocent people died can more eloquently explain why McGuinness is supremely unsuitable to deliver a “peace lecture”. The following is from a Justice 4 the 21 statement: Continue Reading…

Dismay at Omagh Bomb Decision

Admin —  September 12, 2013

Statement by TUV leader Jim Allister:

“I am dismayed that the Secretary of State has decided a public inquiry should not be held into the Omagh bombing. The relatives of those who lost their lives deserve to know the truth and are understandably terribly disappointed by this decision. Continue Reading…

Allister Puts it Up to Kelly

Admin —  September 12, 2013

Below is the speech by TUV leader Jim Allister during the debate on Gerry Kelly’s remarks in Castlederg.

This debate — indeed the events of the summer, the motion and the amendment — are testament to the continuing abject failure of the Belfast Agreement. Here we are, 15 years after the new dawn of 1998 that we were all sought to be conned about, discovering that, right at the heart of government, are those who still cling to the justification — not just the justification, the eulogising — of evil, wicked terrorism. Of course, there are some in the House who should remember that they put them there. The DUP’s contribution to the debate thus far, perhaps Mr Campbell excluded, has been somewhat lacklustre. Maybe Lord Morrow’s conclusion will be different. However, it says to me that there is a realisation that what they have created is not now working, and we saw that writ large in Castlederg. Jim Allister has welcomed the fact that the first item dealt with in the new Assembly term was the Speaker informing members that Ann’s Law had received Royal Assent.

Statement by TUV leader Jim Allister:-

“When Douglas Bain was appointed as Assembly Standards Commissioner I called on him to resign from the Parades Commission because of the obvious conflict which could arise when investigating any complaint connected in any way to a parade determination. He refused and insisted on clinging to both jobs.

“Now, the predictable has happened. Mr Bain finds himself compromised by his Parades Commission membership and is having to duck out of an investigation he should be conducting and, instead is putting the Assembly to the extra cost of appointing someone else to act in his place.

“This has arisen in respect of my complaint against Gerry Kelly, arising from the Castlederg episode. Mr Bain has written to me as follows:- Continue Reading…

Statement by TUV leader Jim Allister:

“The revelation that the family of a convicted criminal were paid “substantial” compensation after he was murdered by former associates in the Real IRA shows that Criminal Injury Compensation needs to be reviewed urgently.

“This is an issue which falls within the remit of the Justice Minister, David Ford, and it is something which I intend to press him on.  Continue Reading…

Statement by TUV leader Jim Allister:

“I welcome today’s news that the DUP are backing the Charter for Innocent Victims of Terrorism – albeit a full four months after other Unionists did.

“When the Charter was launched I commented:

“How can Mr Donaldson and others in the DUP claim that the Centre will contain a balanced and truthful account of the Troubles when innocent victims of Republican violence are united in their opposition to the plan and will have nothing to do with it?

“Understandably the Charter makes it clear that a project which will “provide the means for terrorists to return to the Maze as “victims”, educationalists and quite possibly tour guides – self-cleansing them of their heinous crimes” is totally unacceptable to innocent victims.

“This isn’t the claim of TUV or the political opponents of the DUP but rather the innocent victims of Republican terrorism. Continue Reading…

TUV welcomes Maze u-turn

Admin —  August 15, 2013

Statement by TUV Leader Jim Allister:-

“What a night – victory over Russia and victory on the Maze!

“Congratulations to all who campaigned so hard against the Provo Project at the Maze, particularly innocent victims. Every signature on our petition helped force the DUP into a monumental climb down. We must ensure there is no backsliding on the issue!

“Despite all the diversionary talk from Peter Robinson about the changing stance of others, his Maze u-turn is seismic, but none the less welcome for that. Continue Reading…

Statement by TUV leader Jim Allister:

“The attack on Woodbourne Police station was wrong and has been rightly condemned. However, when one listens to Sinn Fein representatives pontificate about this their hypocrisy really is nauseating.

“Sue Ramsey attacked those behind the bombing as “irresponsible” on the BBC’s TalkBack programme and highlighted the fact that children had picked up the bomb. She then told listeners that the difference between this attack and the type of attacks carried out by the Provisionals was the lack of popular support.

“One assumes, therefore, that Sinn Fein continue to believe there was nothing wrong with planting bombs in the 1970s and at any time when their IRA did it.

“In 1973 9 year old Gordon Gallagher died when he triggered an IRA bomb in Londonderry. Last year the boy’s parents called on co-First Minister McGuinness to tell police who was involved.

“Martin McGuiness was, by his own admission, second in command in the IRA at the time of Gordon’s death.

“In February 2012 I tabled a written question to the Office of the First and deputy First Minister asking whether the Department – which has responsibility for victims’ issues – had given all possible help to the Gallagher family in their humanitarian quest to identify the murderer of their 9 year old son.
