TUV Leader’s New Year message

Admin —  January 2, 2014

Message from Jim Allister MLA:

TUV had an effective year in 2013: we helped force the DUP’s huge u-turn on the odious Maze project, we piloted Ann’s Law through Stormont – giving innocent victims their first victory in years and Sinn Fein their first defeat – and, I believe, TUV’s very existence acted as a brake in the recent Haass talks.

From these successes we now look forward to 2014, with its challenges and opportunities. 22nd May will be a particular day of opportunity, when at the polls unionists and democrats will have the chance to strengthen our hand. If TUV has achieved with just one MLA and a handful of councillors, think what we could do with multiple representation across the province! Continue Reading…

TUV Responds to Haass Outcome

Admin —  December 31, 2013

Statement by TUV leader Jim Allister:-

“TUV warned throughout the Haass process that Unionism would be expected to concede ground yet again. The Sinn Fein response itself verifies our warnings. While the proposals have not yet been published – and they ought to be – it seems that what was on offer when it came to parades was mandatory consultation with objectors and code of conduct straight jacket under a renamed Parades Commission. This was not going to protect parading rights or resolve the situation in North Belfast or Portadown. Continue Reading…

Statement by TUV leader Jim Allister:-

“It is certainly no surprise to me that the Haass process is putting pressure on unionists. It was never designed to do otherwise. All such international involvement has the same tilt, because the Dublin/London/Washington nexus, which drives the process, is consciously anti-unionist. It was the same when Mitchell was the frontman. Nothing has changed under Haass. The only difference is that the DUP leader was foolish enough to join with his government buddy McGuinness to call in Haass! Continue Reading…

TUV warns against Haass sell-out

Admin —  December 17, 2013
Statement by TUV leader Jim Allister:-
“From the outset of the Haass process I have warned that Unionism and innocent victims have nothing left to give. Now, it is clear, that this is precisely what is being demanded. Unionist participants will be judged, not by their posturing, but by what they finally concede when subjected to the pressure cooker treatment of the next few days. Continue Reading…

Commission Personnel Not the Issue

Admin —  December 13, 2013

Commenting on the appointment of new members to the Parades Commission TUV leader Jim Allister said:

“The appointment of new members to the Parades Commission will be met with scepticism by the Loyal Orders and rightly so.

“The primary issue isn’t the membership of the Commission but its existence. Continue Reading…

Statement by TUV leader Jim Allister:

“I welcome the fact that, after some prodding from myself, the Social Development Minister apologised to the DSD Committee. I do not, however, accept that the misinformation in letter was the result of anything other than calculated and deliberate.

“Did the Minister really need to read the Committee Hansard to find out who he had been meeting? Did he not check when the BBC asked him about the meeting? Did he not check when asked multiple questions from MLAs about the meeting?

“The truth is that the Minister ran out of road today. Continue Reading…

With the DUP and Sinn Fein pledged to produce and promote a ‘Sexual Orientation Strategy’, TUV leader Jim Allister used a Stormont debate on the subject to both challenge why there is a need for such a strategy, which he described as “special status” for the LGBT community, and to call on the DUP to abandon the project.

In the course of his remarks Mr Allister said:- Continue Reading…

Speaking in an Adjournment debate at Stormont, TUV MLA Jim Allister argued strongly for a new combined bus and rail station and extension of the park & ride facilities.

In the course of his remarks Mr Allister said:-

Mr Allister: It is doubtless that there has been a significant upsurge in the use of public transport that passes through the station, particularly the trains.  We now have a regular problem of oversubscription.  The fundamental problem is that we have not seen an upgrade in facilities to match the upsurge in use and we are left with facilities that are way below par in meeting need.  It is regrettable that that is the case, and it should spur us on to rectifying it as speedily as possible. Jim Allister has become the first party leader to officially back “A Covenant for and with innocent victims and survivors of terrorism”.

Commenting Mr Allister said:

“The covenant was presented by Innocent Victims United to the Haass team some weeks ago. I believe that all public representatives should study its contents carefully, especially given the comments of some in relation to immunity. Continue Reading…

Adams’s Comments Sickening

Admin —  December 4, 2013

Statement by TUV leader Jim Allister:

“Gerry Adams’s claim that Chief Superintendent Harry Breen and Supt Bob Buchanan died because of a “laissez faire disregard for their own security” is utterly sickening.

“The Officers were murdered because bloodthirsty terrorists went out to gun them down. They were murdered because the Garda in Dundalk who they had been meeting tipped those terrorists off.

“Adams compounded the hurt and insult he inflicted when he told the Dail that the officers were “doing their duty as they saw it in the same way as IRA volunteers were doing their duty as they saw it”.

“There is NO parallel between the officers who went out that day to try and combat terror and the criminals who went out to murder the two officers who were betrayed by the Garda.”
