Jim Allister has tabled a series of questions to Health Minister Edwin Poots on the developing child sex abuse scandal.
The TUV leader has a track record of seeking justice for young people abused having previously attempted to widen the scope of the Historical Abuse Bill to encompass clerical abuse, something which was frustrated when the Speaker declined to have them debated.
The questions Mr Allister has tabled are below:
To ask DHSSPS when did the minister receive the Barnardo’s Report into ‘The sexual exploitation of children and young people in Northern Ireland’, either in draft or final form, and what action did he take and when.
To ask DHSSPS did the minister refer the Barnardo’s Report into ‘The sexual exploitation of children and young people in Northern Ireland’ to the The Safeguarding Board for Northern Ireland, or its predecessor the Regional Child Protection Committee, and if so when.
To ask DHSSPS to list all the agencies which were contacted, and when, on foot of receipt of the Barnardo’s Report into ‘The sexual exploitation of children and young people in Northern Ireland’.
To ask DHSSPS why was there such delay till September 2012 in establishing The Safeguarding Board for Northern Ireland, given that The Safeguarding Board (Northern Ireland) Act was passed in February 2011.
