Statement by Jim Allister MLA:
“I am delighted that the HRH Prince of Wales and the Duchess were able to visit my constituency area of Ballymena.
“Their visit to Wrightbus only weeks after the Mayor of London, Boris Johnson, reflects the international success as far afield as London and America the company has had in the last year.
“The importance of private sector growth cannot be emphasised enough; in order to improve living standards in the province and attract inward investment, dynamic companies such as Wrightbus and other local businesses need to continue to build on their success.
“Prince Charles has an opportunity to talk to local farmers and emergency services personnel at Larne Town Hall in relation to the recent weather which has such a devastating effect on so many farming communities throughout the province. His own personal involvement in agriculture enabled him to emphasise with the struggles that the farming community continue to face.
“The Duchess of Cornwall’s visit to Broughshane Library highlights the importance of our local libraries, which have been threatened with the possibility of closure in recent years.
“I feel that the slashing of public funds in order to cut costs by this Executive whilst spending millions on the Maze Shrine is an utter disgrace to the people of Northern Ireland.
“The official opening of the Rowan sexual assault referral centre at Antrim Area Hospital by the Duchess signals the start of a new era for support provisions for all victims of sexual violence and I hope that this will encourage more victims to come forward.
“I would like to extend my thanks on the Royal Couple for taking the time to visit.”
